02.Apr.2012 Boi Jeanius – Remembers Selena Quintanilla Tribute Mix
Long over due mix i should have done years ago but its complete now!
That Selena tribute mix was a bit personal. The music has always been there but for some reason this time I felt it needed to be done. For years my family has asked me to make one but I always put it off cause it was my family asking to do this and it wasn’t priority. My family in Texas we’re relentless haha. I was sitting down watching the movie with my mom and i never actually new the story behind her. I just new her music because of my brother and cousins who played her music religiously. Back then if I didn’t know Selena I was loosing.
I was 5 when she passed & I’ve followed her music ever since just cause my family took it so hard. But I never thought about what she meant. All I knew was she was absolutely gorgeous and had an amazing voice. All these years I kind of just wrote it off cause it was always there. About a week ago, my mom was watching the movie, the last time I seen it I was prolly 12, so it never really sank in why she was so important. I was in a rush in and out my moms house when I decided to sit down and watch the movie with her. Now I’m 23 and been through enough that I could actually understand and relate to some of her music. I always knew the music but never really understood what she was talking about.
It really hit home to hear that passed at 23yrs old. I always knew that but for some reason it didn’t mean anything…until now. I was ballin when It got to the part of the movie when she passed. So much talent, so much drive, personality, a strong support system. Idk why but I felt the urgency to put this project together. I had my brother put together a list of music just to reintroduce myself to her. As I’m going through the music I’m listening to it like DAMN! I’ve been there! The connection was more than just our last names.
I didn’t line up BPM’s so it can flow, I told a story with her life & mine. The stars aligned, it means more to me than any other project. It took me 17 years to really appreciate and love her even though she was always there. In a way I’m a little embarrassed cause I always felt like I was too cool. But now where I’m at with my career and life it just made sense. That I give her my full undivided attention, love and respect she’s deserved. I can tell just by the emotion in her music that it’s real. In a weird way like she’s talking to me haha.
I will say I learned a lot while putting this project together. Something that’s always been there for you, screaming for attention, deserves it. Too late & it’s not so important anymore. Once it gets old & not given the proper attention, it gives up on you. The only way to get it back is to actually change & listen.
With all that said, I get it & thank you. Living the life I do involves a lot of fabrication and creates alot of short term memories. The important things are not behind 2 turntables and tho it’s fun it doesnt out weigh the connection between family and loves ones. Hi five!

UPDATE: So a massive turn of events has occurred with this remix. It turns out my track was stolen and claimed as an entree in an official Remix contest for Beyonce. The prize is to be selected as an official remix and $4,000 cash!
The Culpret (who will remained unnamed) took my song, and in 5 hours generated 5000 plays!
I First got wind of the contest from a friend on facebook who mentioned that i should enter my remix in, so i looked into the contest and saw potential so naturally i went through each remix and highlighted the competition. Before i submitted my remix i figure id do some touch ups and additions. The next thing i knew the 4th track i played was my remix…WITH SOMEONE ELSES NAME ON IT!! It was surreal cause I knew the sound, then i questioned hey wait maybe..NO! I Made that from scratch!!
I posted this on facebook and asked my fans to jump on and let them know who’s remix it was…
and before i knew it…
LOL
It started with 27 comments. then 47, then ended 127!!!!! in 15 minutes! (THANK YOU!)
Together we managed to get “his” track deleted and removed from the contest!! So now i need YOUR HELP to get MY REMIX HEARD!!!
